In dem US-Bundesstaat hat sich ein großes Bündnis gegen gegen die umstrittenen neuen Einwanderungsgesetze formiert.
Zahlreiche Organisationen beteiligen sich an der Kampagne.
Viele bekannte US-Musiker haben sich wegen des  Einwanderungsgesetzes für einen Auftrittsboykott in dem US-Bundesstaat entschieden.
Die im April verabschiedete Änderung des Immigrationsgesetzes stellt in Arizona unter anderem einen Aufenthalt
ohne gültige Papiere unter Strafe.
An der Boykott-Aktion der Gruppe "The Sound Strike", organisiert von Rage Against the Machine
beteiligen sich unter anderem Rapper Kanye West, die Hip-Hop-Gruppe Cypress Hill
und die britische Band Massive Attack.

In Arizona, das im Süden an Mexiko grenzt, leben ca. eine halbe Million Einwanderer ohne Papiere.
Die meisten stammen aus Mexiko oder Mittelamerika. Insgesamt wird die Zahl der Menschen,
die sich ohne Papiere in den USa aufhalten, auf rund elf Millionen Menschen geschätzt.

Das Gesetz verpflichtet die Polizei von Arizona den Aufenthaltsstatus von Personen zu überprüfen,
die ihnen Anlass zu dem Verdacht geben, dass sie sich illegal im Land aufhalten. Bürger in Arizona
müssen zukünftig immer Dokumente bei sich haben, die beweisen, dass sie legal in den USA sind.
Das Gesetz sieht auch härtere Strafen vor für diejenigen, die illegal eingewanderte Bürger beherbergen,
beschäftigen oder sie mit staatlichen Mitteln medizinisch versorgen.
